Change format to find inspiration...

I have been working on a couple of big canvases lately (I hope to finish them soon to show you)...  but this morning I did not have any inspiration at all. I picked up my art journal and found my flow!!

It is amazing how changeing format or medium can kick of the inspiration. The girl is inspired by a doll that I found on the net a long time ago and she spoke to me, so I had to paint her:-) I started with gluing a paper bag into my journal. I love the texture that gives me. I then used graphite, color pencils, water soluble pencils, acrylics and inks. I love the result!

This journal spread is absolutely stunning. I like it so much. I love how the girl has eyes of two different colors. I just found your blog and I love your artwork. I am thinking of doing an altered book around the them of The Night Circus - and she looks like she would fit perfectly into that theme! Wonderful job - so glad you posted it.
  • Hi Tricia,

Hi Jenny, enjoying reading your blog. I have a question for you. What sort of journal do you use, is it a pre-bought one or a made one, and if made what sort of paper are you using? x Janine
  • Hi Janine,
    Thank you for commenting:-)

I am using different "books" for art journaling. The one that you see here in my post "Change format to find inspiration… " is a Moleskin Sketch Book. It has thick paper that stands paint well. I am also using old books that I alter and I am also making my own journals out of mostly recycled paper and cardboard. I art journal on many different kinds of paper and if the paper is thin I prepare it with gesso or collage it with other papers to make it stronger. I love using old paper bags as the background.

Let me know if you have further questions and I will happily give you whatever tips and knowledge I have!

    Have a creative day!!

    Jenny
